The Canon Powershot S5is is an 8.0 megapixel 'Bridge-Camera' that was released in 2007. It is LOADED with features, and has a very responsive user interface and lens.
Like many Powershot cameras of it's era, it is an excellent model for glitch photography- with its rich color pallet, and sensitive image processor. It is set above other Powershot models in its class by its advanced manual shooting features, and superior hardware.
The 'Super-Mod' camera features three separate glitch channels with four controls each for making an almost endless variety of psychedelic and otherworldly photos possible, with easy to find and use combinations for almost all shooting conditions.
Using the camera's extensive manual controls to under-and-over-expose the glitched images being taken, makes dialing in the desired effect easier, fast, and satisfying.
The 'Super-Mod' switch interface has been carefully designed to take full advantage of the camera's glitch capabilities, while avoiding redundancies in glitch combinations, allowing the user to experiment freely without wasting too much time running through settings.
Each of the three glitch channels has four controls;
-Input Select Switch(2-position slide switch)
-PWM Filter Polarity Switch(2-positions slide switch)
-PWM Filter Cutoff Slider(potentiometer)
-Output Select Switch(5-position slide switch)
The modifications go beyond typical camera-bending where pixel-dat is simply combined with an array of on-off switches. The glitch channels in the Super-Mod actually bypass the inputs and outputs of the pixel-data from sensor to processor, and the pixel-data can be modulated by the PWM filter(and inverted) prior to being processed. This gives the camera more capabilities, and beautifully unique glitching characteristics otherwise unattainable.
Due to the vintage of the S5is, many cameras will come to me with common mechanical issues associated with age and use over the years. Each camera I sell is thoroughly and extensively checked for defects and/or repaired/cleaned prior to listing. However, signs of age and wear will more than likely be present.
Should the camera need repair or maintenance, I offer free repairs if the return shipping cost is covered by the customer. I have rarely had returns, but this has always been my policy.
USE AND CARE:
Shooting with the S5is will take some experimenting. Don't be afraid to think "outside-the-box"! Use the manual setting to experiment with different exposure settings in all lighting environments. Consider adding CHDK for added features and broader control.
WARNING! This camera model is nearly 20 years old. The nylon gears, lubricants, and some electronic components inside can fail or break easily if the lens is abused. Avoid dropping the camera at all costs! Also, the battery compartment of this model is notorious for battery-leak damage, and jams due to corrosion. It is best to remove all batteries between uses.
